6. Techniques for Affiliate Marketing
The way that I now approach Affiliate Marketing is to build web sites of usually more than fifty pages around particular kinds of product or service. (Search engines like sites with a particular focus rather than broad sites that try to include everything.) I do not at the moment have any opt-in Email lists and I do not use any kind of Email marketing.
People may say that I am missing huge opportunities by not having an opt-in Email list. This is probably true. However, I believe that people are becoming increasingly wary of signing up for any kind of Email letter. Also legislation is tightening up on spamming and I feel that anyone who operates an Email list needs to be very careful about how they use it. I would prefer in many ways not to have that responsibility.
So my revenue opportunities are derived entirely from carefully structured web sites and their integration with the search engines. At the moment I rely mostly on free traffic but I am researching ways to use pay per click traffic too.
Do not take what I do as gospel. Every affiliate marketer has his or her own take on how to make a living on The Internet. Many would regard my approach as naïve and unlikely to have a long-term future. It is in the nature of this business to be unable to predict how things will pan out in the future.
It is probably best to work out a strategy that suits our temperament and our skills. If we persevere with our efforts, refine our technique and learn as we go along, we will develop a way of working that is appropriate for us. We may even be able to make an approach work that no one else is using. If this is the case, we may well have found a useful niche, unique to ourselves. Above all, it is important to learn everything we can and to be confident also that we will find a way through the maize. We need to trust our instincts and believe in our ability to succeed.
